Background

Kristen received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University. She is now a fourth-year student at Adler University working towards her doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Kristen’s work experience spans both psychiatric hospital and private practice settings, where she developed skills in supporting individuals facing various challenges, including trauma, anxiety-related disorders, eating disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other concerns relating to behavior, life transitions, relationships, and intimate partner violence.

Therapy Approach

Kristen utilizes a collaborative and holistic approach, tailoring treatment to meet the specific needs and goals of each client. Using a relational framework, she integrates mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and cognitive-behavioral perspectives into her practice. Kristen believes people are influenced by their unique life experiences, family dynamics, and social contexts. By exploring these factors, Kristen helps her clients gain insight into their patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. She empowers individuals to challenge unhelpful beliefs, develop healthier coping strategies, and cultivate a sense of purpose and belonging.

In therapy, Kristen fosters strong therapeutic relationships with her clients based on empathy, validation, and authenticity. She values the strengths and resources of each individual and works alongside them to identify and build upon these qualities. Together, you will work to understand the function of specific behaviors and symptoms, address underlying concerns, and develop practical strategies to overcome obstacles and achieve your personal goals.
