Jennifer (Jen) Schlau, MA


Background
Jen graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Science in Marriage and
Family Therapy (MFT) at Northwestern University and completing her clinical hours at Progressive Psychological Healthcare. Jen also holds a Master’s Degree in Library and
Information Science (MLIS) and has brings experience as former library faculty teaching and supporting library patrons with a wide variety of needs. Jen’s background positions her to interact and support clients from a wide variety of
backgrounds. Jen works collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families, seeking thorough understanding of what is going on in clients’ lives in order to help them work on their treatment goals and grow.

Therapy Approach:
Jen’s approach is based on thorough assessment, empathy, collaboration, and working
with client strengths. Jen seeks to create a safe, validating environment where clients
can share who they are and their situation in order to work on their treatment goals. Jen
works within the Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST) framework, getting a full picture of
client situations and collaboratively developing ways to remove barriers to change and
have clients achieve their goals. Jen leans heavily into helping people understand,
validate, and move through their emotions in order to shift and grow to meet treatment
goals.
