Rivka Schaffel, BA

Rivka Schaffel completed her undergraduate degree at Touro University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent psychology.
She is currently pursuing her master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Northwestern University. Prior to her internship at Progressive Psychological Healthcare, Rivka worked in various capacities with children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. While supporting children with diverse needs, she developed an understanding of children’s innate desire
and ability to grow into their potential. She has experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome, rare genetic disorders, and other developmental disorders. Rivka remains dedicated to supporting children in their journey towards a healthy and meaningful life.

Rivka emphasizes growth, empowerment, and wellness in her therapeutic processes.
She embraces a person-centered Rogerian approach and incorporates Adlerian,
psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. She believes in following
her clients’ lead toward growth and reaching self-actualization. Her therapeutic lens focuses on enhancing communication, social skills, and emotional regulation through imaginative and engaging play activities. Rivka is passionate about empowering children with disabilities to express themselves and develop their unique strengths. She ensures every client feels heard and understood regardless of their
communication method.
